The spinning wheel activity provided an opportunity to interact with people while having fun and learning something about the environment. People are now more aware of the work FWADG is doing to improve the corridor. New connections with other organizations were made; the focus is to collaborate on improvement initiatives. The Western Heights Cemetery plant sale generated great interest and an opportunity to share the value of native Texas plants plus volunteer at the WHC.

Discover the Worth in Fort Worth Avenue:
A Vision for 2025 and Beyond
The FWADG Board conducted a highly productive planning retreat, establishing clear strategic direction for 2025. Working collaboratively, the board developed comprehensive action plans aligned with their theme “Discover the Worth in Fort Worth Avenue: A Vision for 2025 and Beyond.” The session benefited from expert input from Deborah Carpenter of District 6’s City Plan and Zoning Commission, who provided essential context regarding PD 714. The board also engaged in strategic discussions with Marcus Shropshire and Brian Kilpatrick from the Trinity Park Conservancy, identifying opportunities for synergy between their respective initiatives along the corridor.

Third Annual Fundraiser—Day of the Dead—A Successful Event
The recent event offered a diverse array of activities, drawing interest from attendees of all ages. Highlights included a plaza dedication featuring memorial brick viewings and guided cemetery tours that brought history to life through descendants’ stories and tombstone inscription interpretations. The celebration also marked the birthday of President Katherine Homan.
Adding a festive touch, The White Rhino venue was transformed into a vibrant Day of the Dead setting, complete with themed decorations, specialty food, and beverages. A silent auction showcased unique items, with all proceeds earmarked for beautification and capital improvements at the Western Heights Cemetery.
